Engineering Principles & Working Mechanism

Membrane nitrogen generators utilize bundles of thousands of hollow polymer fibers that separate gases through selective permeation. Fast gases such as oxygen, water vapor, and carbon dioxide permeate through the fiber walls and vent to atmosphere, while slower nitrogen flows through the bore and exits as high-purity product gas.

The system features no switching valves, cyclical depressurization noise, or complex electrical controls. Its completely static, silent operation makes it ideal for offshore platforms, mobile trailers, tire inflation depots, and hazardous ATEX environments.

At HAVKOM Engineering, we supply OEM-compatible replacement membrane modules, design ultra-clean upstream coalescing filtration trains to prevent oil coating, and provide heating/pressure control systems to maximize membrane separation efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

What purity range is optimal for membrane nitrogen generators?

Membrane technology is economically optimal between 95% and 99.5% purity. For ultra-high purities (>99.99%), PSA technology is significantly more energy efficient.

What poses the greatest threat to nitrogen membranes?

Liquid oil and oil aerosols in the feed air. Oil coats the polymer pores, permanently degrading permeability. Multi-stage coalescing pre-filtration and carbon adsorption upstream are mandatory.
