An activated carbon tower is a final-stage treatment unit that removes vapor-phase oil, hydrocarbons, and organic compounds (VOCs) from compressed air via adsorption — contaminants that coalescing filters cannot capture. In a correctly designed system, it can bring air purity to ISO 8573-1 Class 1 standard (≤ 0.003 mg/m³).
Carbon bed saturation cannot be detected visually; therefore, media replacement should follow manufacturer recommendations (annually or every 8,000 operating hours) and be verified with calibrated residual oil analyzer measurements. A saturated bed allows oil vapor to break through into production lines, risking entire product batches.
At HAVKOM Engineering, we provide independent technical service for activated carbon tower maintenance, media replacement, and calibrated air quality measurement. At every intervention, we verify ISO 8573-1 compliance by measurement and store results in our digital archive.
